User Roles and Permissions

You can find detailed explanations of each end-user role, their corresponding access rights, and expected responsibilities within the carbon management workflow.

List of User Roles and Permissions

Administrator

Description: This role is typically reserved for those managing platform access.

Permissions: Full access to all platform functionalities.

Carbon Manager

Description: Ideal for sustainability specialists responsible for carbon accounting and reporting.

Permissions:

● Full access to Data Management (excluding Emission Factor Drivers), view and edit Organization, and Analytics sections.

● Can view user role assignments, but cannot edit other users’ roles.

Data Custodian

Description: Suitable for users who need to submit data to Terrascope.

Permissions:

  • Can upload data for assigned tasks.

  • Can view processed data related to their assigned tasks (excluding Emission Factors.

  • Can view the roles of other users involved in the same project, such as the Carbon Manager.

Environmental Expert

Description: Designed for subject matter experts who analyze and simulate decarbonization impacts.

Permissions:

  • Full access to Data Management and Organization management.

  • Same operational capabilities as Carbon Manager with the additional ability to view the Emission Factor Driver Tree.

Viewer

Description: Suitable for users who require restricted access or only need to view data.

Permissions:

  • View access to activity data (excluding Emission Factors).

  • View access to the Organization Chart.

  • View access to the Dashboard and Emission Analytics.


Roles and Permissions details view on the platform

To view role and permission details on the platform:

  1. Click your profile icon in the upper-right corner and select ‘Settings’ from the dropdown menu.

  2. In the left-hand panel, select “Roles” to display a list of available roles.

  3. Click on any role to view its detailed description and associated functionalities.

  4. Expand a functionality (such as "Data Management") to see its permissions.

  5. The table indicates whether each permission grants ‘View’ and/or ‘Edit’ access.


Special Roles

Project Manager

Description: This role is to manage a Data Campaign, assign data collection tasks to data custodians, track the data collection progress to ensure timely data collection. Suitable for users who understand overall project objectives and its measurement scopes.

Permissions:

Carbon Managers can assign “Project Manager” to the specific Measurement project during the process of Data Campaign set-up.
